The Perry Township Police Department announces the Ambassador Program – designed for individuals wanting to enter law enforcement as a profession or assist in law enforcement services.

Elevated Services. Providing more than just traditional law enforcement services, our Ambassadors will be recruited and trained to perform a more dynamic function. This upscale experience will, through selective recruiting, have volunteers that can serve a dual role: exceptional community service and a skill set to protect the public.

This innovative approach adds to the superior services the Perry Township Police Department is known for and raises the bar with volunteers specifically recruited, uniformed and trained.

Dressed for Success. The Ambassadors will have a more casual and approachable appearance: black duty pants, red embroidered polo shirt, and a black v-neck wind shirt with embroidered Perry Township Police Department Ambassador logo. As with our existing auxiliary/reserve officer program, the volunteers are responsible for the purchase of the required clothing attire from David’s Uniforms in Dayton.

Win-Win Situation. There are many individuals who have successfully completed a law enforcement academy but have not been able to find a department to hire them for paid or even unpaid (auxiliary) positions. The Ambassador Program will offer a number of those individuals an opportunity to move toward a commission, but is a status earned, not given.

We will allow new recruits to begin orientation with our department as Ambassadors and progress based upon abilities and department openings. The commission-seeking applicant is given the opportunity to become actively engaged with the department knowing a law enforcement commission should be forthcoming. This program is however, not limited exclusively to individuals wanting to move into a commissioned position and those individuals who merely wish to volunteer their services with the police department may be considered.

The Ambassador Program consists primarily of trained individuals who volunteer their time to enhance services provided by the Perry Township Police Department while working toward a commissioned position as an auxiliary police officer. Each Ambassador donates at least 8 hours during each two-week pay period (20 hours a month minimum for those seeking a commission).

The Ambassadors, being traditionally “bearers of goodwill” will have a “focus on the positive”. They may work individually, as a team, or assist the commissioned officers with such things as: (a) crime prevention and community outreach projects; (b) non-enforcement police department operations such as setting up the speed traffic trailer; (c) ride-a-longs with uniform patrol officers; (d) administrative tasks; maintenance of office, building, grounds, vehicles and equipment; all while learning about Perry Township in general and operations of the police department specifically.
